April 25-27, 2019
The largest event of its kind in the nation, the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival brings together internationally recognized artists, jazz lovers, award-winning clinicians, and over 250 college, high school, and middle school big bands, combos, and vocal jazz groups. Each year, over 7,500 participants enjoy the main stage concerts, after-hours sessions, daytime performances, and many educational workshop sessions.
Take 6 : Heralded by Quincy Jones as the “baddest vocal cats on the planet,” this quintessential a cappella group has won 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards, one Soul Train Award, received two NAACP Image Award nominations, and earned a place on the Top Ten Billboard Contemporary Jazz and Contemporary Christian Charts. Six virtuosic voices that bring crystal clear harmony, syncopated rhythms, innovative arrangements, and funky grooves that permeate through gospel, jazz, R&B, and pop.
Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra : Regarded as one of the premiere big bands in the U.S., the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra was formed in 1985 by bassist/composer John Clayton, saxophonist Jeff Clayton, and drummer Jeff Hamilton together with an all-star lineup of Los Angeles-based musicians.
Benny Golson with UNC Jazz Lab Band I: Multitalented and internationally famous jazz legend, – a composer, arranger, lyricist, producer – and tenor saxophonist of world note, NEA Jazz Master Benny Golson was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 25, 1929. Raised with an impeccable musical pedigree, Golson has played in the bands of world famous Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Earl Bostic and Art Blakey. Few jazz musicians can claim to be true innovators and even fewer can boast of a performing and recording career that literally redefines the term “jazz”. Benny Golson has unquestionably made major contributions to the world of jazz.
